Theresa was initiated into Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated Ⓡ, Beta Upsilon Fall 1982. Her committee's memberships include: Founders Day, Audit, Public Relations and The Arts.

She served her community in the field of education as a teacher and librarian; Theresa is also a published children’s author. Post retirement, she is presently Funeral Director at Kitchen Funeral Home.

Additionally, she is the wife of Eric Marvin Singleton, Sr. and mother of Terese Elaine Singleton-Cooper and Eric Marvin Singleton, Jr. Along with spending time with her family she enjoys singing and writing music, reading, watching movies, and particularly loves family time more so now that she has a new granddaughter, Zoë.

She is passionate about both the Arts and HBCUs. However, she feels her life’s work has centered around the Arts. She shared. “I’ve been blessed to enjoy music and creative writing” She has recorded music professionally, published poetry and children’s books. Her passion for the Arts spilled over in her work as a librarian. She exposed her students to all sorts of art forms through reading, writing and the use of the Acadiana Center for the Arts and PASA. She sponsored the NHS Literary Club whose core mission was to bring alive the Arts. Opening the eyes, minds, and hearts of young people to the beauty of the Arts is a phenomenal experience and one that she strives to continue pursuing. She knows she can do this if she keeps her favorite scripture in mind “ I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” Philippians 4:13
